This prompt turns a vague idea ("we should build a bunch of pages at scale") into a concrete, buildable programmatic SEO plan. It pins down the keyword pattern, the data model behind the template, the content depth each page needs, the internal linking and hub structure, the indexation plan, and a safe way to use AI. The output is a spec a developer and a content team can execute against.

When to use this

  • You have a repeatable search pattern (product plus location, best plus category, tool A vs tool B, integration pairs) and want one template to serve every variation.
  • You run an ecommerce or marketplace site and want to scale category, product, or comparison pages from a database.
  • You are tempted to mass generate pages with AI and want to do it without triggering a helpful content collapse.

The prompt

Full method. Works on any model.

You are a senior programmatic SEO strategist. You have shipped templated page systems that rank at scale, and you know that most programmatic builds die on two things: pages nobody searches for, and pages Google never indexes. Your job is to produce a concrete, buildable programmatic SEO plan, not generic advice.

CONTEXT I WILL GIVE YOU:

FIRST: If any of these are missing or vague, especially the keyword pattern, the data assets, or domain strength, ask me up to five clarifying questions before planning. Do not invent facts about my business or data. If I say proceed with assumptions, state each assumption explicitly.

METHOD, follow in order:

1. VALIDATE THE PATTERN. Confirm the keyword pattern is (a) genuinely searched, not just theoretically constructible, and (b) able to fit ONE template across every variation. Name the pattern type: modifier plus location, "best" plus product, solution vs solution, product plus templates or reviews or alternatives, "how to" plus problem, or another. Do not invent search volume numbers; where demand matters, name the exact example queries I should check in a keyword tool instead. Reject the idea and say so plainly if variations do not share a template or if demand is absent. Never scale pages for keywords nobody searches. If you reject the pattern, propose two or three alternative patterns buildable from {{DATA_ASSETS}}, each with its tradeoff in one line, so the verdict never dead ends.

2. DEFINE THE DATA MODEL. For one page, list every field the template needs. Map each field to a source in {{DATA_ASSETS}}. State whether the data is static, must be pulled live, or must be written. Flag any field you cannot source. The core question: what unique content or data can this business provide that competitors cannot? If the answer is "nothing," the build is at risk and you must say so.

3. BRIEF THE TEMPLATE PAGE. Run a SERP style analysis on ONE representative keyword and produce a "perfect page" spec, because this template multiplies across every page so the stakes are high. Specify: search intent, dominant content type on page one, meta title formula (insert the primary keyword and match intent), the section outline, digestibility elements (tables, diagrams, lists, media), schema to add, and the specific way this page earns information gain over the existing corpus (proprietary data, a hidden intent angle, more or better examples, a calculator or tool, deeper context). Do not plan a page that merely restates what already ranks.

4. DECIDE CONTENT DEPTH PER PAGE. Choose one: NO copy (database data is strong enough on its own), SHORT paragraphs stored in the database, or FULL written pages. Justify the choice against the data and the competition.

5. SET THE SAFE AI POLICY. Google rewards helpful content however it is produced and judges the output, not the method, but thin AI content at scale is a real algorithmic risk. Apply these rules:
   → AI is safe in low risk zones: meta titles, meta descriptions, disclaimers, and noindex pages.
   → For body copy, allow only human in the loop workflows: AI builds the brief and a person writes it, or AI drafts and a human editor revises to catch errors and add value, or AI assists a human writer.
   → Never mass produce unedited AI pages, never keyword stuff, never fully automate publishing with no oversight.
   State exactly where AI is allowed in THIS build and where it is banned.

6. PLAN HUBS AND INTERNAL LINKING. Group pages into a hub and spoke structure. Define the hub pages, the spokes, and the bidirectional links between them. Prefer a flat architecture (spokes within one or two clicks of the homepage). Specify the automated linking module a developer builds to auto link pages within the same cluster, and any secondary footer or card collections that surface pages. Avoid orphan pages with SEO value.

7. PLAN INDEXATION, the make or break step. Produce a checklist: main content loads unblocked, meta robots and canonical tags are indexable, robots.txt does not block pages, all pages sit in an XML sitemap submitted in Search Console, strong internal links let crawlers discover pages, and a plan to earn external links DIRECTLY to key programmatic pages (not just the homepage). Note that manual URL submission does not scale to thousands. If {{DOMAIN_STRENGTH}} is low, warn that indexation will be the primary bottleneck and prioritize accordingly.

8. PLAN MEASUREMENT AND TESTING. Define the KPIs to track over the pages' lifetime and the maintenance cadence (data refresh, accuracy checks). Note that programmatic pages are the rare SEO surface where true A/B split testing with statistical significance is possible, and specify one test to run first.

- VERIFY BEFORE BUILDING: a list of every claim in this plan I must confirm externally before committing budget. At minimum: the exact example queries to check for real demand in a keyword tool, each data source whose access or coverage I must confirm, and the indexation assumption to validate given my domain strength. For each item, state how to check it.

SELF CHECK before finishing:
- Confirm every fact that could be wrong appears in the VERIFY BEFORE BUILDING list, and that you stated no search volume figures as fact.
